E. G. (Ted) Staunton, Headmaster, has had 38 years of experience working in independent schools. He started his career in 1973 as a teacher of history at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario. He was appointed Headmaster of Balmoral Hall School for Girls in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1986 and then Headmaster of Lower Canada College in Montreal, Quebec, in 1989. His final Canadian school headship was at St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario, where he spent twelve years.  Upon retiring from St. Andrew's in 2009, Ted was encouraged to apply for the Headmaster position at Saltus Grammar School. He was appointed in March 2009 and moved to Bermuda in July of that year.Ted has been married to Jane Staunton for 40 years and has three daughters, Rebecca, Emily and Elizabeth who all reside in Ontario.
 
Jon Beard, Director of Alumni Relations, was born in the UK and received his Cert Ed (Distinction) from Madeley College of Education, BEd (Honours) from Keele University, and MSc from University of Leicester. His first teaching position was at Queen Elizabeth High School in Herefordshire where he was Head of Boys Physical Education. He married Jennie in 1976, and they moved to Bermuda in 1977 when Jon took up the position of Head of Physical Education at Saltus. In 2000 He took on the Head of SGY and then two years later left the PE position to concentrate on the new two-year SGY program. In 2011 Jon moved on to be the Director of Alumni Relations. Also involved in the community he has been chairman of the Bermuda Council for Drug-Free Sports, Chairman of the Bermuda Schools Sports Federation and a member of the Bermuda Football Association where he has been the national youth coach and the Chairman of the Coaching Committee. Jon has the “A” Coaching Licence of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Jon’s wife Jennie was also a long-serving Saltus teacher who sadly died from cancer in 2009.
 
Claire Charlemagne, Deputy Head - Academics, graduated from the University of Bradford, UK, in 1999 with an honours degree in European Studies. She spent a year teaching English in the French island of la Réunion and then returned to the UK to complete her PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish). She spent three years working as a teacher and Assistant Head of Modern Languages and joined Saltus in 2002 as Head of Modern Languages. After a tenure of 5 years she was promoted to Director of Studies (Secondary), responsible for the Secondary department curriculum, timetable and Professional Development. As Deputy Head - Academics, she is a firm believer in the value of continuing professional development and was awarded the Master of Science in Educational Leadership in 2010 by the University of Leicester, and the National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2012 by the National College for School Leadership (UK). Claire is married to Peter Charlemagne, a member of the Bermuda Police Service and they have two children.
 
Karen Lusher, Director of Academic Support, received her Bachelor of Science in Speech and Language Communication Disorders from Emerson College in 1984. She worked as a speech/language specialist in the Natick Public School System before accepting a position at the Chaffee Elementary School on the United States Naval base. Later, she joined the Child Development Project to administer developmental assessments and provide intervention for families throughout Bermuda . In 1994, Karen received her MEd in Elementary Education from Lesley University. She has been teaching at Saltus for 11 years as a classroom teacher and a learning specialist. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Psychology. Karen is married to Chris (class of 1976) and they have two daughters, Ally and Kelby (class of 2007).
 
Ann Paynter, Director of Middle Division,  began her career as a Graphic Designer, after studying at Northumbria University, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Although Graphic Design was enjoyable , she decided to retrain to become a teacher and left the security of full time employment to become a student again, attending Bristol University where she gained her Bachelors’ in Education in Craft, Design & Technology. She has extensive experience in teaching Secondary students both Art and Design & Technology. Ann joined Saltus in 1996 and has held the following positions: Head of Department, Head of Year and Deputy Head. She is currently the Director of Middle Division, a post which, although challenging, is also immensely rewarding. Her daughter is a student in Saltus Upper Primary.
 
Alexander WhiteAlexander White, Director of Upper Division, holds a BSc in Computing with Operational Research from Paisley University, graduating in 1975. Later he attended The University of Glasgow and was awarded a BSc in Mathematics in 1980. He was awarded his post-graduate Teachers Certificate from Jordanhill College of Education. Having taught in Scotland as a new teacher he arrived in Bermuda in 1981. After spells at Whitney Institute, Warwick Academy and Bermuda High School for Girls he came to Saltus in 1995 when he was offered the position of Head of Mathematics. He has had two sons (Andrew and Alex) graduate from the school.
 
Ms. Nicole Chichon-De Silva, Director of SGY,  came to teaching in 1992. Having completed a BA (Hons) in Spanish and Public Media from Leeds Trinity University (1990) followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in European Business Management and Information Systems (1991) at Anglia Ruskin University. Ms. Chichon worked both in London and Gibraltar in international business, however in 1992 following a family tradition she became a teacher. In 1992 Ms. Chichon worked at Trinity Catholic High School, South Woodford where she became a licensed teacher under the UK department of Education licensed teacher scheme. Here she taught French, Spanish and Media Studies to GCSE and A level standard before deciding to move to Bermuda in 1996. Ms. Chichon came to Bermuda as a MFL teacher. During her 15 years as a teacher at Saltus, she has been lucky enough to hold many positions within the organization from Head of House to Head of Department to Year Co-ordinator to Deputy Director of SGY (Saltus Graduate Years) to her current position as Director of SGY. Ms. Chichon is married to Keith and has 2 daughters who both attend Saltus Upper Primary.
 
Ms. Heather Couper, Director of Human Resources, was appointed Director of Human Resources at Saltus Grammar School in November 2010. She has over fifteen years’ experience in Human Resources, including experience in recruitment, immigration, employee relations, training and development, compensation and benefits and performance management. Ms. Couper has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Guelph and a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation. She is currently a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Bermuda Human Resources Association (BHRA). Ms. Couper worked in a variety of industries before joining the Saltus team, including hospitality, employment services, technology and banking. As Director of Human Resources, Ms. Couper looks to align recruitment and retention strategies with the School’s mission to attract and retain an outstanding faculty through recruitment, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development. Her responsibilities include overseeing recruitment and the new hire on-boarding process, managing the work permit application process, overseeing employee benefit schemes including the health insurance and pension schemes, and assisting with all personnel related inquiries.
 
Julie Boyd, Director of Finance and Administration,  graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and then continued on to obtain her Chartered Accountant designation. Julie spent much of the early part of her career lecturing at the University and College level in the field of accounting. Julie joined Saltus in 2009 as the Director of Finance and Administration. Her educational background provides her the knowledge base necessary to understand the key cost factors and their direct correlation to student success. Julie is also a faculty member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario where she assists with the training of future Chartered Accountants. Julie and her husband Todd have one daughter Bailey who attends Saltus Grammar School.
 
Trudy BucherDirector, Information TechnologyTrudy Bucher, Director of Information Technology, graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with Bachelor of Science degrees in Pre-Professional Science (Hons) and Biology (Hons). She later was awarded a graduate assistant position at the same university, where she taught Statistics and worked in the School of Business Computer Center. Trudy earned her Master's in Business Administration (High Hons) in 1995 and proceeded to work for Gateway Systems as their Media Marketing Manager. Trudy joined Saltus in 1997 as Technology Coordinator and was promoted to IT Manager shortly afterwards. Serving in her current role as Director of Information Technology, Trudy is responsible for the school's network infrastructure, all hardware and software purchases and implementation, the Laptop Programme, HelpDesk, and the integration of technology throughout the school. Trudy and her husband Larry have two children who attend Saltus Grammar School, Zachary (Upper Primary) and Jessica (Lower Primary).
 
Tracy RenaudTracy Renaud, Director of Upper Primary Department, possesses a BA from Queens University (2002) Kingston, Ontario Canada and a subsequent Masters of Teaching Degree , Elementary (2003) from State University of New York, Potsdam, NY. Mrs. Renaud initially joined Saltus in 1996 as an Administrative Assistant reporting to the Headmaster. She then went on to work as a Classroom Assistant at the Lower Primary Department working in Primary 1 and 2. Her love for the children and a passion for teaching caused her to return to the above mentioned Universities to complete her degrees. After gaining experience teaching in the public and private sectors in Canada, she then returned to teach Primary Two at the Lower Primary. In 2007, she was appointed the Deputy Head of the Lower Primary Department. This rewarding position provided her the opportunity to be a member of the Administrative team as well as affording her the time to continue to teach specific subject classes within the department. This period also saw the introduction of the highly anticipated and now immensely successful Foundation Year Programme. In 2010, Mrs. Renaud moved to the Upper Primary as the Deputy Head. Working in the capacity as the Deputy Head of the Lower and Upper Primary was insightful and allowed for the chance to gain an understanding of the unique and very different challenges presented by both departments. After serving as the Deputy in the two departments, Mrs. Renaud was appointed as the Director of the Upper Primary Department in September 2011.
 
Director of Lower PrimaryShelly Sayers, Director of Lower Primary, was born and raised in Bermuda. After attending BHS, she attended Miss Hall's School in Massachusetts where she received her High School degree. Then she received her BA degree in Education from Mount Vernon College in Washington DC. Shelly returned to Bermuda and worked at the Bermuda High School for Girls for fourteen years and joined Saltus Grammar School in 1999. Shelly has taught all levels from Year1-7 and served as Deputy in the Primary Department at both BHS and at Saltus for several years. Shelly continued her education and received her MEd in Organizational Management from Endicott College, Massachusetts in 2008. Shelly is passionate about teaching and the education of young children. She is excited about her new position as Director of Lower Primary here at Saltus and is looking forward to this new stage in her career.Shelly is married to Peter Sayers and they have two sons, Ben and Jamie who are proud Saltus students.
