Annual Appeal
Our published mission indicates that we "encourage, reward, nurture, and challenge students to become productive and contributing members of, and active participants in, our very complex local and global society" and we work hard to realize that goal. This means that we are dedicated to developing a curriculum and campus that allows all students to meet their full academic potential. It also means sustaining a tradition of excellence and reliability and ensuring the maximum achievement and fulfilment of all.
We review the buildings and facilities throughout the school each year and seek to make improvements in order that we might enhance the learning and teaching environment. Such improvements are much needed but the funding for them is sometimes difficult to achieve without the help of trustees, parents, staff and friends of the school.
Previous appeals have assisted us in the renovation of all washrooms throughout the school, in the creation of new library spaces, in the installation of new play equipment at Cavendish and most recently in the renovation and development of six of the classrooms in the Senior Department.
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give"
Gifts to schools add meaning to our lives by providing children a worthwhile start in theirs.
Contributions to Saltus have funded:
- new libraries for the Secondary, Upper Primary and Lower Primary Departments and acquisition of thousands of new books
- new computer centres in both the Secondary and Primary Departments and refurbishment of the Lines Computer Centre
- start-up costs for the innovative 'Learning Through Laptops' scheme and purchase of state-of-the-art ICT teaching aids for classrooms
- six-out-of-six planned renovations in the Cavendish 'Adopt a Classroom' scheme and refurbishment of the Cavendish Music Room
- weather cover for the Cavendish pick-up/drop-off area
- Instruments for the music department
- new playground equipment for the Cavendish field
- renovation of boys and girls restrooms in all three departments
- Restoration and re-planting of the sports fields
Indeed, it costs much more to educate each student than parents actually pay. The balance is derived from contributions to Saltus which, in the past seven years, have totalled over $9 million. Contributions have come from Saltus Trustees, past and current parents, alumni, the teaching, administration and maintenance staff– and even from students themselves.
The projects targeted for the 2009-2010 annual appeal are: -
- expansion of the bursary and financial aid programme
- Further support for the Centre for Learning programmes
- The maintenance of play equipment at Cavendish and at the Primary Department
- The upgrading of classroom furnishings – school-wide
- The continuing upgrading of classrooms – school-wide
