Annual Pacers Relay Classic

sponsored by AIG
The Pacers Annual Relay Classic was held on Friday, 3rd May 2019 at the National Sports Centre. Saltus entered 15 teams in the various age categories.

The Upper Primary Girls had heats in the 4 x 100m relay and qualified for the final, finishing 8th overall. In between heats and finals, the same girls ran the 4 x 400m relay, which was a timed final, and placed 6th overall.

The Upper Primary Boys had heats in the 4 x 100m relay but unfortunately, on one of the changeovers, the baton was dropped, which put them behind and without a chance to qualify. Credit to the boys for picking up and carrying on to finish the race.

In the 4 x 400m relay, timed final, the same boys finished a very creditable 4th overall.

The Middle School Girls won the silver in the 4 x 400m with a fantastic effort from all team members. Unfortunately, one of the team members was injured and we had to withdraw from the 4 x 100m relay.

The Middle School Boys (4 x 100m) was a straight final as a couple of teams did not show. Saltus placed 5th in the race, less than half a second off of 4th place team. The Middle School Boys (4 x 400m) relay comfortably won the bronze medal, even after Ryan ran out of his shoes during the race.

Our High School Girls and boys teams placed in both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. Both events were straight finals. In the girls 4 x 400m, the team of Zemira Webb, Koa Goodchild, Za’Kayza Parsons and Ashley Irby, won the gold medal beating CBA ‘A’ by more that 20 yards. Our ‘B’ team, consisting of Emily Cabral, Jade Johnston, Danni Watson and Marli Butterfield placed 4th.

The ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 4 x 100m race.
The High School Boys ‘A’ team continued on a similar path to the girls with a stellar victory in the 4 x 400m relay and a 3rd place finish in the 4 x 100m. The ‘B’ team finished 6th in both races.

There was an overall points competition as well. Saltus middle school teams placed 3rd overall and our high school teams placed 2nd, a mere two points behind Cedarbridge.

We would like to thank ALL of the runners who participated in the relays as well as Vincent Darrell, Moses Johnson and McKenna O’Donnell who were all on call if needed.
