School Counselling Services

At our school, the counselling programme is designed to support the holistic development of students from Junior Kindergarten through SGY-2. As the school counsellors, we provide a variety of services to ensure that each student has the tools and support necessary to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Services Offered
Our school counselling services include:
  • Individual Counselling: Personalised, one-on-one support for students experiencing stress, anxiety, friendship challenges, family transitions, academic pressure, or personal concerns.
  • Group Counselling: Small group sessions focused on specific topics like social skills, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, or building self-esteem. These groups are designed to encourage peer connection and mutual support.
  • Classroom Guidance Lessons: Age-appropriate lessons integrated into the school curriculum, covering topics like mindfulness, emotional awareness, positive communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Crisis Intervention: Immediate, short-term support for students in critical situations, such as family emergencies, grief, or other urgent needs.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Working closely with teachers, parents, and school staff to address student needs in a comprehensive, collaborative manner. This may involve classroom observations, parent-teacher meetings, or referrals to outside resources when needed.
How to Engage Counselling Services
Students and families can access counselling services in several ways:
  • Self-Referral: Students are encouraged to reach out to me directly if they feel they need help.
  • Parent Referral: Parents can contact me directly if they believe their child would benefit from counselling.
  • Teacher/Staff Referral: Teachers or staff may recommend students for counselling if they notice signs of emotional distress, difficulty in peer relationships, or challenges with academic performance.
A student may be referred to another service provider (i.e. Child and Adolescent Services, the Family Centre, Child and Family Services or to a private counsellor) to receive support for family related issues, depression, anxiety, abuse, suicidal tendencies, trauma and behaviour disorders.

Counsellors embrace the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the American Counselling Association (ACA) and the American School Counsellors Association (ASCA) and refer to these codes periodically or when faced with an ethical dilemma.

Referrals are handled with confidentiality and respect to ensure the privacy of the student and family.
